Uckfield Teen Volunteer Wins Wealden Award

An Uckfield Volunteer Centre teenage helper has been praised for his work.

Stephen Evans, 17, was named Wealden Young Volunteer of the Year.

The Chairman of Wealden District Council, Cllr Chris Hardy, hosted his annual Civic Reception at Herstmonceux Castle on Friday (March 1) where he also presented the Community Volunteer Awards.

Stephen received his award for his contribution to the Uckfield Volunteer Centre, offering free one-to-one IT support and training to the public.

Cllr Hardy said: “This year we wanted to highlight the tremendous contributions volunteers are making to Wealden’s communities. So many people channel their energies into helping other people and the environment but rarely receive the thanks and recognition of the wider public.

“Community volunteers are taken for granted, but without them we really would notice a difference. By finding and rewarding some outstanding examples of volunteering in Wealden, we hope others will appreciate the sense of purpose and fulfilment volunteering can bring.”
