Session Volunteer

About the opportunity
Ditch the Slippers addresses issues of loneliness and social isolation in older people living in North Wealden, including those living with a diagnosis of early Dementia. It also gives respite to family carers whilst their loved one takes part in a happy supported activity. There are two events each week – Games on Mondays and Singing on Thursdays.
Activities are led by professionals and take place in church halls in Crowborough. Joining our dedicated group of volunteers will involve anything from keeping a game going to finding the right page in a songbook to helping with refreshments and giving members sensitive support. Referrals to Ditch the Slippers come from families, health professionals, community support workers and others. Most importantly, everyone is given an opportunity to socialise in a safe and welcoming environment.
Games take place on Monday morning from 10.15 to 12.00 noon and Singing on a Thursday morning from 10.15 to 11.45am and some members are transported by our volunteer drivers. As a volunteer you would support one or more activity each week or you would be happy to support on a less frequent basis, but frequently enough to keep up to date with what is happening and be familiar with procedures.
We also welcome volunteers with new ideas who feel they could extend the range of activities we provide, depending on their own skills and interests.
