As well as recently retired doctors and nurses being asked to return to work, the NHS needs an “army” of volunteers during the coronavirus outbreak.
NHS Volunteer Responders has been set-up and they want people to help in non-clinical roles, such as volunteer drivers, to support the 1.5 million people who are at most risk from the virus.
Volunteers must be 18 or over, and fit and well with no symptoms. Those in higher-risk groups (including those over 70, those who are pregnant or with underlying medical conditions) will be able to offer support by telephone.
