Uckfield FM – Volunteer Awards & 30th Anniversary

Local radio station Uckfield FM kindly interviewed our chairman Paul Sparks again last week, discussing the current work we’re doing at the volunteer centre to promote youth, and our IT skills training which can be booked by appointment.

Primarily however, he was speaking about our upcoming Volunteer Awards which coincide with our 30th Anniversary. Time is almost up to nominate someone, with the closing date the 15th September (tomorrow!), so get them in asap! It doesn’t matter how great or small the deeds are, if you feel someone is deserving of an award for the good work they’ve done, volunteering their time to help others be it an organisation or a neighbour, then put them forward and who knows…they might win!

Surprisingly we’ve had less nominations for our Good Neighbour award and Young Volunteer (under 25’s), perhaps people feeling that helping their neighbour during the pandemic has been a matter of course, doing their shopping or assisting in the garden etc. We say don’t underestimate that help, as it will have no doubt been vital, so get in that nomination, likewise with any under 25’s who’ve been quietly going about helping others.

Our categories in full are:

  • Service to our Community Award
  • Good Neighbour Award
  • Young Volunteer Award (under 25’s only)
  • Happiest Volunteer Award
  • Volunteer of the Year Award (open to our member organisations only)

The awards will take place on the 30th of September, and Paul Sparks will be back on Uckfield FM on the 1st of October to announce the winners which will also be up on our website.

If you’d like to listen to Paul’s interview it can be found here on Uckfield FM’s website: https://www.uckfieldfm.co.uk/2021/audio/paul-sparks-uckfield-volunteer-centre-2/

You can nominate someone via our website form found here at the bottom of the page, just fill out the boxes and submit: https://wealdenvolunteering.org.uk/about-us/uvc-volunteer-awards-2021/

Best of luck to all nominations!
