English Buddy Volunteer – Diversity Resource International

About this organisation
Diversity Resource International (DRI) is a not-for-profit Social Enterprise that supports ethnically diverse and migrant communities. Established in 2004, they work primarily in the Sussex area. DRI focuses on four core areas of work: Community Engagement and Development, Community-led Research, Leadership and Enterprise, and Training towards Equity and Inclusion.
About this opportunity
They are looking for friendly volunteers for their English Buddy project, who will assist with their English classes in Uckfield and Peacehaven for people from ethnically diverse backgrounds. English speaking applicants will join a couple of classes in Mid-August and then pair up with one learner to practice their English. It is a great opportunity for the volunteer to learn another culture and language.
Travel will be reimbursed and refreshments will be provided for the English Buddy Meetup event. The classes will be held locally so it is easily accessible. They are happy for the volunteers to meet the learners online for periodic interaction. Interactions will be once a week.
There are places for multiple volunteers in both Uckfield and Peacehaven. The groups will meet in Uckfield at the Civic Centre on a Friday from 10am to 1pm, and on a Thursday in Peacehaven from 10:30am to 1:30pm.
