Our trustees are a real source of support and motivation for the Volunteer Centre. Their involvement is an essential part of maintaining and developing the services we offer.
I believe that every human mind feels pleasure in doing good to another.
Thomas Jefferson
Paul Sparks – Chairman
I have lived in Uckfield with my wife Dorothy for over 30 years and following my retirement from Lloyds Bank, I have been actively involved with the community life of the town. I have served as both a Wealden and County Councillor and I am currently a Town and Wealden Councillor for the Uckfield East ward.
I helped establish a Dementia Forum for Uckfield to improve the quality of life for those living with dementia and their carers and I am currently the Chairman. Also I have been involved with Uckfield U3A for many years and currently act as their Treasurer.
In 2012, I helped to form a residents association for Manor Park & Hempstead Fields including a well used surgery car service. I’m also a Governor for Holy Cross Primary School and a Trustee for Uckfield PHAB club.
I enjoy most sports with keen interest in football.
John Carvey – Treasurer
I started my career with British Railways and went into the finance section. In the past I have been involved in advertising and housing and then in the finance departments for the legal profession.
Before retirement I spent the last 20 years with the Uckfield company, Dawson and Hart. I have served as both a Town and District Councillor and also for 3 years as the Town Mayor Uckfield. I am also a volunteer for some local Uckfield groups.
Ann Montier – Trustee
I have been at the Volunteer Centre for the last eleven years, and six of these as the Centre Manager, which I thoroughly enjoyed. My background has been in administration and having ran my own florist business for 20 years, decided it was time to retire, I then offered to help at the Volunteer Centre. I have always lived in the Sussex area and particularly like the community spirit in Uckfield.
I have two adult children and four grandchildren with whom I love to spend time. I also enjoy travelling, especially to see my family in New Zealand.
Jane Sambrook – Trustee
I retired four years ago, having worked in Childcare for 36 years. I am a qualified Social Worker and Play Therapist. Prior to retiring I worked as a manager in a secure unit for young people. I have been with the Volunteer Centre since I retired and currently volunteer in the office where I look after the membership scheme.
